Hola

Hi Everyone,
Well I tried but I have received NO answer. It is time to revitalize this blog and start enjoying the good ole stories from both the existing, green peas & retired DBA'rs. If anyone has any suggestions please offer them up. I was thinking of possibly a BI-weekly live blog. After your staff reports of course. Just to let you all know I have the blog set not to remember or confirm any personal data. No IP's etc. So we can speak freely. However by doing this it also means that nobody can be blocked or banned either. Email me with your suggestions.

    hey, its carrotjuicin,
how is DBA doing? With the economy in the shit'r and airfare thru the roof are they staying busy? While other companies are cutting back is DBA? Fewer associates and using PM's and Cheifs to do all the studies and work with the front line supervisor................probably not.

Joe Chipriano with his porn star mustcahe needs to get a clue. He was a manager at Pizza Hut before becoming the DBA bigshot. Chipriano is such and idiot. Has anyone had him in their internals screaming like a girl. Go to his facebook page, he looks like a child molester.

Hey guys this is Kevin Colostomy,

I just wanted you guys to know I am doing well. I still adjust base numbers to make up for my lack of performance, cry like a prepubescent girl when someone challenges my authority, and fire green peas to make my small penis look bigger. Hope this blog gets going. No DBA blog would be any good without any Kevin Colostomy stories.

Lets focus this blog today on Joe Chipriano. What a pathetic looking loser. I can't believe DBA lets him talk to top clients. He has the personality of a 2 by 4. He has an ugly wife also. He needs to go back to Pizza Hut making tomato pies.

Do not work for this company if anyone is thinking about it. You will work 12-14 hours a day on a project or 16-20 hours a day if on a analysis for a small sarting salary of $39,000. You can make more by getting minimum wage plus overtime.

If you are a criminal this is the place to work. The company does not do drug or background checks. There are a buncn of people working here because they can't get a job anywhere else because of their criminal background. In addition most people that work here have been fired from their last jobs and also can't get a job anywhere.

    Iron Mountain Manager

I work at Iron Mountain as a Manager. I reveived this link through my email. I have to say DBA is worthless. DBA is as useful as tits on a bull!!! The DBA employees I have dealt with do not have a clue what is going on. Your whole process is a joke. I will be sure to past this link on to all my co-workers throughout the country. Your numbers you track are worthless. I can't believe companies pay you to come in and mess up their operations.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous3:57 PM

As a former DBA associate I would like to say that Iron Mountain is a joke. I was there and I saw it first hand. The supervision there was the worst I had ever seen in my entire life and believe me I have seen some gems. Don't get me wrong I hate DBA, but let's keep this real shall we. Let me guess Mr. Iron Mountain Manager, this must be the first time in your life you are actually accountable for the production in your area? First time you actually had to fess up to the fact that 70% of your hourlies hide and talk on their cell phone 50% of the time? This is my suggestion to you, man up and hold your people accountable for once in your life. Just because Iron Mountain has a monopoly and can price fix doesn't entitle your hourlies for piss poor performance. DBA is a joke for the most part but not in "Iron Mountains" case because you guys flat out suck.

    Current DBA employee

Just something I found in about 30 seconds. Check the last two lines. I found it on thefreedictionary.com

    hour·ly (ourl)
    adj.
    1. Occurring every hour: hourly chimes.
    2. Frequent; continual: hourly changes in the plans.
    3. By the hour as a unit: hourly pay.
    adv.
    1. At or during every hour: The news is broadcast hourly.
    2. Frequently; continually: complaints that came hourly.
    n. pl. hour·lies Informal
An employee paid by the hour.

    Dear Iron Mountain Manager

I haven't checked on this blog since I posted about how you guys suck. You have got to be kidding me with the hourlies statement. Did you look at your own spelling retard? I didn't make any remarks regarding your spelling because I just assumed you were stupid. You work for Iron Mountain and that's all I needed to know. Anyway check your own spelling retard. Here's a challenge for you. Look at your first post and tell me what you spelled wrong. After you identify that try to explain to me again why you have a problem with hourlies. You are so stupid but yet so Iron Mountain. Actually don't respond to this because I'm not getting in a fight with a retard it just makes me look cruel.

You know every company sucks. I believe DBA could change five business practives and become a truly world clas company. They won't but, it is a nice thought. The name of the game at DBA is lie to your boss. Every chief lies to the senior chief and every pm lies to the chief about what has already occurred. This creates an overwhelming expectation on staff to deliver obscene amounts of work which they can not. So what do they do? Lie to the PM. Honesty would fix a lot of problems at DBA.
There is a culture problem as well. People are penalized for not knowing things. If you ask for help you clearly can not install so you do not advance. Knowing when to ask for help is a true leadership trait and should be promoted not penalized.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous12:05 AM

Mike Owens now runs the company. I am interested to see what he does. If he were to hold the chiefs who were unproductive accountable life would be better for everyone. They are the level that costs the most and provides the least value.

There is a PM who does cocaine regularly. This needs to be addressed. I agree with anonymous. There is an integrity issue at DBA.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous3:07 AM

Just to follow up on one of the previous post about the PM that does cocaine regularly. It's surprising that after more than 7 years that no one in upper management has realized that Timothy Larue does cocaine on the regular and often with his own staff on assignment. Perhaps its because cocaine is his drug of choice and after a few days its not detectable in a drug screen.
Have none of his previous Chiefs found it odd that he was hyper as hell after only a few hours of sleep EVERY friday morning, sweating profusely when it's 10 degrees out, or surrounding himself with other 'like minded' individuals.

Additionally I find it hard to believe that no one has addressed Timothy's tendency to screw his employees. Literally and figuratively. Figuratively when he makes up shortcomings to have someone demoted or terminated. Literally as when he was sleeping with Lindsey Vancscriver while she worked for him on the Brown Printing job. Her relationship with Timothy is how she advanced so quickly in the company. He did all of her work for her, fed her all the right answers, placed her over lead staff while she was barely a G, pumped her up to the Chief that she was the best thing going, demoted/terminated anyone that confronted her, informed the Chief that she conducted every workshop although she didn't hold one, and installed her clients for her. As a side-note he allowed her to keep a dog at the hotel and share his cocaine on sundays and mondays.

Timothy I know you read this on the regular...so FYI....2 other members of management also slept with Vanscriver on her back crawl to the top.

Oh and you will never make Chief....looks like you got overlooked again. Congratulations Todd Brooks.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous11:05 AM

Todd Brooks is a good person and a great leader. Very inspirational and motivating. He will work the shit out of you but at least you know it is getting you somewhere because he explains shit to his staff. The company needs more Todds and less Pizza Huts.

I haven't been here for a while but it seems this has really turned into a bitch session. As much as you may dislike DBA, it's not cool to pick on their wives. Stick to facts, please. Brian Fletch is back....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Current Staff11:51 AM

It is a "bitch" session because there is no way to be honest with some Chiefs, Super Chiefs, and the President. Staff reports are heavily modified. People love the work we do when it is done properly and well administered. When done poorly your life sucks.
Basically, once you are a Chief you are in "the club". You are less inclined to give a shit or be productive, and less likely to call another Chief when they aren't being productive or generally being a horse's ass. I am not saying this is all Chiefs or PM's oh and analysis teams, but there are enough bad one's out there that get away with enough that this platform is seen as a viable option. Everyone knows it is read and talked about, so eventually if one bad pm, or chief, get smeared enough maybe somebody will start paying attention. My suggestion to DBA is if they don't want wives and girlfriends attacked or this to be a public airing of dirty laundry then set up an internal method to complain in a respectful, and constructive formum without fear of getting your ass fired for having an opinion.

  42. Good day all...

Let's try an experiment. What three things is DB&A doing well, and what three do you think DB&A they need to continue to work upon. I'll give it a shot at going first. Of course these are just my suggestions, they may be totally off base. I think I've read some of these on here before, so there is nothing Earth shattering just my thoughts.
    Doing well:
    1. The company really seems to be improving the way employees are treated. Things such as increased pay, the quality of the hotels has improved, and for the most part, the screaming internals seem to be less often. Nicely Done.
    2. The service provided. Some clients may not agree with the details of what DB&A provides, but when it all breaks down, we are teaching some basic management skills and introducing accountability. We do that very well.
    3. What our staff learn. Staff will complain about the long days, and hard work, but at the end, you will learn a ton about managing in a number of different industries. Whether you stay at DB&A or go, that knowledge makes you much more successful in your career.

What could the company improve upon:
    1. Hire an actual HR group. We could outsource this, or use some truly trained individuals. I suspect that the costs could be offset by fewer lawsuits, and employee satisfaction.
    2. Remove the dead weight at the chief level. Let's be honest, we have some at that level and some super chiefs that are not adding value. If they are not getting repeat business, or they have a constant turnover of staff / pm's, why are we keeping them? If it is the shares, then let's just pay them residuals for 5 years or something, and get them out. This would help prevent the "Retired in place" that is common, and allow for upward growth. We've lost some good people because they don't see potential for moving up.
    3. The travel. We all realized that the job meant travel, but it makes it so difficult to set up routine things such as medical appointments. You either schedule them well in advance, which means someone has to come pick you up at the airport on Monday (not always easy), or you skip appointments. Some companies fly 1/2 the people home every Thursday. It seems that they are able to cover their clients on Friday. If we're honest, how much time are we spending with the client on Friday anyhow?

Anyhow, that would be my list of three. What would make your lists? Does analysis make your list? What about sales?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous10:08 AM

    Top 3
1.)The investment in staff is paying dividends. More intelligent and they do not seem to be as wussy. They are doing an indoctrination that seems to be doing some good too but it needs some improvement.

2.)Better trained staff are better at finding legitimate opportunity which is converted into client value and that means getting more work.

3.) It appears the disciplining of shitbags is happening and the managers are managing people who can't get results, and suck out of the company. At least at the staff and PM level.

    Needs Improvement
1.) Chiefs who do not get more work, can only handle one client at a time, or refuse to work out of country.

2.) Consistency. An "A" in one group is not the same as an "A" in another. When it comes ranking time the only one that gets hurt is the staff. Also the passport needs updating desperately.

3.) Our sales group is pathetic. At UPS everyone handles boxes. The same should hold true at DBA. Sales people should be consultants there needs to be a pipeline into that part of the business. HR needs to have a pipeline from staff ranks.

4.) Staff should be present for most parts of the chief's meetings before they start making decisions. Not to speak unless asked for an opinion. They don't have to do what the staff guy says but, they should have an opinion from the field.

5.) Market Penetration in emerging industries and markets is poor. We have the potential to emerge from this poor economy stronger and better placed than other firms if we diversify now.

6.) Staff exposure and rotation. Staff need more looks at different types of industries.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Leon The Z7:46 PM

Consultants in general, and DBA in particular, are luxuries that most companies cannot afford. As a former Proudfoot/DBA'er (early to mid 90's), I know the name of the game is billing. Always be billing. You don't bill, you aren't shit, you're worthless. Spread out the manweeks, and hopefully the project will bill out, about the time there is a palace coup in the clients organization, and the stark reality of a shitty installation of a so called Management Operating System, comes-a-cropper. I participated in twelve projects and "survived" five analyses, so I think I know of what I speak. Work there only as long as you have to, then get the hell out, because as we used to say, "its not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" and "how". Go out on your own terms. Then see how valuable those "skills" you learned (hourly schedule checks, master scheduling, "Verbal Proofs", ratio delay studies, lost time studies, observations, etc) are in the legitimate business world. Your days are numbered, and it is later than you think, if you are in Douche Bag Associates. Let me drop some names now: James LaRue, Jim Ozimek, Steve Janik, Leon Zebroski, Chris Wagner, David MacVaugh....all DBA.

By the time an attorney was done with a class action suit you would have little to nothing, he would be wealthy, and DBA would be shuttered. Hurting hundreds of people who work just as hard as you did when you were here. Spend less time hating this company and more time moving on and you will be better for it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Voice of Reason5:42 PM

I am sure that all mentioned are quite capable of defending themselves, but I would ask what we are getting from making sexual remarks about people that are successful in DBA?
While I am not a fan of many people at DB&A, I don't think lambasting them on a public forum is useful? Why not talk about things that might be useful. We don't have a real communication tool to upper management, and when we make personal insults, it weakens the possibility of using this one?
Or the other option: we insult everyone ranked above a F staff???

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anonymous11:37 PM

Lambasting is not useful but it is a fantastic stress reliever,...that and 'batin'.I digress, everyone should remain mostly constructive and use this as a vehicle to communicate with the brain trust.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous10:42 AM

The projects I was on went really well (Chrysler some boat companies and a few others) what seems to be your problems. It seems as though the staff cannot identify problems.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous10:43 PM

What makes you think staff cannot identify problems? 99% of the business is repeat business that doesn't happen because staff can't find problems. That happens when sales people can't close.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous2:49 AM

It has never been about staff being able to identify problems or opportunity. It has always been about life on the road in general. Staff treatment by those in "leadership positions", and being told one thing about how DBA positions clients then being expected to do other things, or being punished for doing exactly what you were told to do.

Everyone at DBA knows quickly what they got themselves into. The name of the game is wisdom at DBA. There are very few PMs, Chiefs, or Vice Presidents of Operations, that are more intelligent than your typical staff,...they've just been around longer. The talking down to people that half of these tardos do is only going to stop when one of them gets punched in the suck hole,...it is just a matter of time because it is a certainty.

All we did is gamble on every sport possible through the internet sports books and then go out and drink and do cocaine while we watched the games we bet on. I probably lost at least 5 years of my life working with Tim. If we were real hungover we would do a few lines in the morning and be READY to go again. Does anyone know if Tim still works there. ANY COMPANY THINKING ABOUT HAVING DBA IMPROVE THEIR BUSINESS BEWARE: 1. DBA DOES NOT DO ANY TYPE OF BACKGROUND CHECK SO THERE ARE FELONS THAT WORK FOR THE COMPANY. 2. THEY DON'T DRUG TEST. 3. THEY WILL BILL YOU FOR 8 HEADS AND ONLY HAVE 6 AT YOUR LOCATION BECAUSE THE OTHER 2 ARE WORKING AT ANOTHER COMPANY. THEY PULL PEOPLE THAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR TO DO ANALYSIS AT OTHER COMPANIES. THEY ARE A COMPLETE RIPOFF. THEY HIRE PIZZA HUT MANAGERS AND THEN EXPECT THEM TO COME IN AND BE A CONSULTANT. THE COMPANY IS A JOKE

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous2:48 PM

DBA can improve your company if there is a partnership between the client and DBA. This means there must be a level of candor and trust. DBA does in fact drug test. DBA bills for a result. Man week billing is only for accounting purposes to track costs. DBA does send people on analysis from active jobs but that has nothing to do with results and is disclosed during the sale of the job. The hiring practices are what they are. You know just enough to be dangerous. Please remember good people work at DBA just like you, when you were there. I wouldn't disparage the hiring practices of a company that picked you up.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous9:40 PM

Well said. As a former longer term employee I am very proud of the work we did. Is there room to improve? Sure. But by and large the associates, PM's and Chiefs I encountered genuinely worked very hard to deliver value to their clients (that includes Tim Larue).

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anonymous11:28 PM

Yes. Timothy Larue is still here at DBA doing cocaine, sleeping with his female staff whenever he gets one who is hungry for promotion, still trying to convince everyone that he has a degree in Industrial Engineering, still lying about all the clients that offer him jobs, and still bitching about all the child support he is paying for his three children out of wedlock. Good thing he convinced Lindsey to get that abortion. Otherwise he would have been up to four.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous7:27 PM

If it was on Friday is it still random? All staff and management are currently subject to random drug testing. It is a hair test so you can't "flush". It's just a matter of time.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anonymous1:11 PM

How much time is needed it was almost 3 years ago when Tim was in Dallas. But that gets back to an earlier post about Morgan and the job he does.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous6:19 PM

    Match, Point!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anonymous10:18 AM

Tim Larue has a history in the organization of being a problematic PM. He sleeps with his female staff whenever he can. If they turned down his advances he worked to get them removed from his project. I challenge DBA management to contact travel and track Tim and Lindsey’s movements and see if they shared a common destination on a regular basis. It’s amazing the number of careers at DBA Tim destroyed in order to move his girlfriend up in the company. He is prone to using every dirty trick he can, including lying and falsification of documentation, in order to demote or terminate someone that rubs him the wrong way. He keeps multiple savings evals on each job (the one he turns in to the chief, the one he shows the staff, and the one he shows the client). It’s a 50/50 chance if you are on a job with Tim that the guarantee will be pulled because he simply can’t get results while coked out. When you start hearing “Volume Issues” be ready for the job to go bad and your rank to plummet. He does use drugs. He doesn’t care for marijuana though…it stays in the system too long. Good luck on catching cocaine in a random follicle drug test on a guy that buzz cuts his hair. Do we have a way to report this up to upper management? No. We don’t have that type of HR mechanism in place in a company that sells system elements and MOS. If you do report it you are fast walked out of the company. I’m really not sure of what role Morgan Buffington plays in all of this. Maybe he is the one that sweeps all of the indiscretions by management under the rug. I personally think he is that guy that is amazed every time he makes it to another Christmas Party. Here is something for you to chew on. Do you really think upper management is unaware of Tim’s moral, ethical, legal, and substance issues? He has been a Project Manager for 10 years in a company that has a military based up/out philosophy. He is the ultimate blocker. In other words, there is a reason they have not promoted him.

Morgan is head of the HR department. Yes upper management is aware of Tim's issues and have "talked" to him about them. You are correct in the fact that if you say something you will be terminated.

I have been gone from DBA for a long time now but was interested in finding out if the chief that kept bringing strippers to the christmas party was still doing it/

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous6:26 PM

Steve Pilatti, AKA Mr. Clean, is the chief that would bring strippers to the Christmas Party. He was fired about a year ago. Funny thing is he was a running buddy of Tim Larue. They loved, Loved, LOVED, strippers to the point they would get hotels attached to strip clubs and bring the working girls back to the hotel for some after hours fun. Way to be an Ambassador of the company.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous6:38 PM

"Talking" to him doesn't rectify that he is still a drug abuser who is representing the company as a member of management and "offing" anyone that he doesn't like. If Mike Owens really wants to understand why after raising our salary quality people still quit or get fired...look at Tim Larue, Doug Caraway, Stan Stafford, Paul Allwes, etc. Shame that if you speak the truth you are let go instead of the real problem. People like him expose the company to a major class action lawsuit which jeopardizes all our jobs.

  80. Anonymous7:44 PM

If DBA upper management knows about it then they are saying its ok. I'm not ok with that.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous10:18 AM

You are so right about Doug Caraway. Was on a project with him when he was a PM and the top client could not stand him and did not want him on the project. DBA almost lost a project because Doug was the Chief and the client did not want to deal with him.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Anonymous1:25 PM

I think Caraway is a solid Chief. Some of DBA's recent longer campaign style projects where multiple projects occur at various locations have had him as a PM or Chief.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous6:32 PM

Caraway is NOT a solid Chief. A solid Chief does not train through public humiliation, intimidation, and pain. A solid Chief does not ignore Key Event Schedules. A solid Chief does not make you work in the hotel conference room every night doing non-value added work following a 12 hour work day. The only exception to the nightly visits to the hotel conference room is when the Top Brass visits and then he suggests "if you want a healthy career at DBA" that you not mention it to Leary and Owens. However, if I report it I will likely be terminated. So no, I can't say Caraway is a solid Chief.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Anonymous7:04 PM

Amen. Amen Caraway is a long way from being a solid Chief. He has no clue how to manage only manages by intimidation and with threats of your job if you disagree with him and his tactics. Owens claims he is going to clean out the bad PM's and Chiefs if he catches them treating staff this way. He needs to go and spend about a month on one of Caraway's jobs and he would discover this for himself. But I would bet he still would not do anything about it.

Anyone else been around Larue when he gets to drinking and talks about Brian Phillips or black people? It's offensive as hell.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Anonymous10:08 AM

Caraway must of wrote the post that states he is a SOLID CHIEF, because no one that has ever had any dealings with him would agree. The only thing Caraway is solid in is in being full of himself.

    Iron Mountain Manager...

I'm with you all the way. DBA did a project at TDS in Madison, WI. What I witnessed were fake Excel spreadsheets, false cost savings calculations, tactics that would make Enron proud.

The DBA employees I got to know were all good guys trying to make a buck with the PM on their back without mercy. Basically forcing them to be "creative" with their numbers or be fired. Every Thursday afternoon he would be at my desk trying to find a "good number" for his meeting.

The people to blame for this are the witless company management who hire DBA. Especially when the Rexnord lawsuit is on page one of a Google search.

In a related note, I just read a great book by an ex-management consultant on the con that is this "industry". It's called the Management Myth by Matthew Stewart. Great book.

Wow, when I saw that this blog had been re-started I thought it would be a venue to give thoughtful and constructive criticism to a growing company. What is being posted here is slanderous at best, everyone is welcome to their own opinions but when you post generic comments about people with no supporting facts that is defined as engaging in slanderous behavior. So how many of these posts have actually been reviewed with the people you are talking trash about? Do you not see the need to confront the person that you feel has wronged you before you engage in speading half truths and outright lies? Take a step back and contact these people and let them know how you feel, maybe just maybe you will recieve a response that you don't expect.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Anonymous6:06 AM

    Wow...
Looking through the Blog I see anger but not slander. I am sure that I am not the only one that has witnessed an example of nearly every event first hand. I know the comments to be true. You are obviously a member of DBA management or a former employee who is close to a member of management... who has been placed in the spotlight through the Blog. It is managements responsibility to develop a medium for communicating concerns (HR) and they have not chosen to do so. It is irresponsible for them to place those functions in the incompetent hands of two individuals who are NOT HR professionals and who are also not certified by any of the recognized HR boards. An open door policy where you address management that is engaging in activities that are immoral or illegal is only effective if their retaliation is muted via a separate policing department...HR. Otherwise the response I expect to receive is harassment leading up to my inevitable termination. Maybe just maybe DBA management is afraid of being overwhelmed with employees finally having a way to voice legitimate concerns regarding harassment, discrimination, nepotism, hostile work environments, drug use, falsified documentation, PIP manipulation, etc. Maybe just maybe DBA upper management is even more afraid that they will be forced to ACT on the employee concerns.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous6:39 AM

Again seeing as you cannot find the spine to address these grievous complaints to your direct line of supervision tells me that at best you are a low performer that expects perfection while delivering average to below average efforts. If what you say is true then directing these comments to your management team will do exactly what your last comment implies, they will have to ACT on the allegations or be subject to legal action for complicity...right. If you are harrassed in any way and eventually terminated would lead to a wrongful termination lawsuit would it not? Time to grow up and say whats on your mind, do it in a manner that you would appreciate and I believe you would be surprised...maybe not, I do not work for this company but know some people that have and or do currently. Many of the things you are complaining about have been echoed by others so there must be some validity here, just step up to the podium and take your shot, then accept responsibility for your statements and be prepared to defend your position.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Anonymous12:21 PM

    Wow...

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

For someone who is against slander you use terms such as "spineless" and "low performer" which are allegations which can neither be measured or confirmed by someone outside of the company. This hypocrisy is typical of the "old school" DBA management and their supporters. I will assume that you are naive and unaware that any and all complaints are met with disciplinary action from demotion up to and including termination...which is typically clothed in the ambiguous "unable to meet deliverables." I will also assume that you are ignorant of the law and not aware of the conditions that need to be met in order to file a wrongful termination suit against an at-will employer that neither has an HR department or maintains employee records and the associated history of complaints against particular member(s) of management.

Employees should not be required to confront management who has behaved in either an unethical or illegal manner. A responsible employer would ensure that all employees are treated equitably and fairly and that everyone is held to the same rigid codes of conduct regulated by an empowered HR department. History in DBA has shown that the only ACT that management does when a complaint is voiced, is to remove the source of the complaint. Problem solved. If you were a former employee of DBA who worked in the trenches, you would have seen first hand how legitimate concerns are treated in the field. You would have also seen the frustration of solid staff who are unable to find anyone in upper management that will listen to their complaints about a fellow member of upper management. After all...it could be them next.

I have a hard time digesting views from someone who is not now, nor has ever been a staff in this company. This is a forum for employees. This is all we have to voice our discontent to management without the fear of retaliation. If they provide us an internal SYSTEM to do so, that will protect the employee from retaliation if the allegations are valid..we will use it.

Until then, we will voice them here and weather the storm if possible until a better opportunity is available.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous2:11 PM

Hmmm...good luck with that "weather the storm" mentality. Sounds to me like you have quite a few good points that need to be heard, however hiding behind a "weather the storm" strategy will just perpetuate the current behavior that you are obviously troubled by. Oh and as far as the "ignorant of the law" comment, you are oh so far off there. Regardless of whether you work for a company incorporated in an "at will work" state or not is meaningless in the eyes of employment law. If the things you are alleging are factual and you and or your peers are able to provide that proof to the satisfaction of an attorney...you have a case. From what you and your peers have described in this blog I shudder to think of how many Federal Employment Laws your management is or has violated. Further, in most cases the employee has the responsibility to be a "whistle blower" and as such is protected under several federal statutes. Voicing your complaints here does nothing to better the situation for you or your peers. From this exchange you at least appear to be a reasonable well read individual, however your peers that feel the need to degrade into name calling and other high schoolish methods do nothing to assist you in this worthy endeavor. If I might make a suggestion, hopefully you will take it in the manner it is offered, find someone that you personally trust within the management structure of this company that you have a reasonable amount of faith in and bring up but one or two of the points that you have so ably made in this thread. Test the waters so to speak and observe the outcome, I cannot or rather do not want to believe that all members of management are unapproachable. I may not have been "in the trenches" with you and your peers but I have had actual experience in working with DBA from the "other side" of the equation. I found that, for the most part, the PM's and Chiefs that I came in contact with were honest and appeared to really care about delivering a methodology that truly helped us. Also what I observed is that, as a group, they do not communicate down to their staff very well. When faced with a void we all have a tendancy to fill it with conjecture and rumor, this is not particular to DBA, during the process I noticed it within the organization that I was in. Obviously we are not always perfect at the management level of any organization but when confronted with the facts in a thoughtful and respectful way change can be effected...it happened for us and I was very grateful for the work done by the entire DBA team that we worked with, some of whom have been named and smeared in this blog. I do hope that you and your peers take a moment and reflect upon the things about DBA that attracted you and the things that need to be addressed and become part of the solution instead of perpetuating the current behavior. I also want to commend you on your ability to comminicate effectively in a written format and thank you for the opportunity to have this exchange...again good luck in the future.

This post is for Mike Owens and Keith Leary.

I think you two have the best vision for where DBA should be headed. Currently Chiefs and PM’s are artificially depressing the PIP scores by not allowing certain staff to perform activities that they have excelled at in the past. It is easy to do since the new PIP is activity based. I agree that we needed to make a change to it, but they are using it to pencil whip any and all staff that they have an issue with. If you want a world class consulting company, I suggest you address this problem and the people who are exploiting the new PIP to move their favorites up and everyone else down. Thanks.

I received a call that the site was back up so I had to check it out. I spent many years working at DBA and enjoyed 75% of them and went through my fare share of PM or Chief abuse; but I made a decision to leave when I was no longer enjoyed the fast pace abuse...some of you should do the same, if you can only insult then you are no better than them and have lost your objectivity. Be constructive and uncover the ones that make life at DBA miserable. I was one of the original posters here and had my fare share of posts deleted (I wonder why) but I believe it served a purpose to uncover PIP/Savings abuse by Closky just as some of you are trying to showcase Carroway, and an increase in the per diem.. I agree Carroway is a bully and only knows force and intimidation, he can only operate in that environment as no other company would put up with his shit (driving his own car....ha, he would have a flat tire in the morning if he pulled that on me). I compare him to Lampman, it took 6 years for him to be fired, but everyone (including Leon & Mike) knew he abused his power and was worthless. I remember that 3-4 years ago he was defending DBA on this blog but didn't have to balls to meet me one on one for a debate

Vagueness, lack of detail, no real substance, probably symbolic of the work you did at DBA. I understand the need to hide behind the anonymous posting but, there is zero detail in these comments. I have days that suck at DBA, if you don't like it move on down the road. If you are gone stay gone. DBA is making an attempt albeit, a slow, begrudged effort to modernize and become a big boy company. Leary is a big part of that. The smears on here do not make this worth reading. Mike, isn't reading this garbage. You can't give anything credence when you attack someone's wife or lack specifics. DBA blows....I was with them some years back. Both on projects and my favorite ....."anul list" (Because the team that ran it were a bunch of assholes.) If the company I worked on during my first project knew what the hell we did they would have thrown us out. I started my "training" working on the day shift. My PM showed me all his NFL football sites and his fantasy leage sites. My counter part on the night shift would make himself a sleeping area in the "bird room" complete with a pillow made out of copy paper. When I transfered to nights about 4 months in there were 5 employees working at night. I completed my tasks and still had 11 hours till the next shift started. I began my online gaming with "Counter Strike". I would play 9 hours a night with only a meal break and a quick visit to the floor so they would see DBA hard at work. To bad it didn't last because my counterpart missed his nightly sleep and begged to go back on nights because he felt he could get more done. The only good thing I can say was the First class upgrade flying so much. From take off to landing I pounded the complimentary Vodka Martinis. The only thing that kept me sane.

There are incredibly able and intelligent people at this company who are able to meet the new and improved standards for staff that who are stifled daily by Chiefs and PMs who could not meet the same standard. Impaired is a gross understatement. How about when your boss is clueless, and to compensate decides everyone will work 14 to 16 hour days. I don't understand your area, can't get myself organized, but I am going to make you pay. The best part is when they don't have the sack to tell you themselves and hide behind a P.M.(They call that delegating at the Country Club Veritas).

...Or when they have the gall to play video games at work, leave before everyone else, eat a great dinner, workout, tug "it", all while you are at the job site working their clients into an actionable position to go home and work some more, eat a hot pocket and 4 tic-tacs, then try and grab 4 hours of sleep.

DBA will attempt to classify you as a professional. However, just because your title implies you are Exempt your actual status is defined by the nature of the work you are doing.(Pilots are professionals) It is the employer's burden to prove the exemption from overtime pay.

EEOC- Again, the employer has the burden to prove they have not discriminated on the grounds of: Age, Disability, Equal Pay, Genetic information, Pregnancy, Race/Color, Religion, Sex, Retaliation, or Sexual Harassment.

Good day all. My name is Scott Kinsey (this may be the first time anyone here has actually given their real name huh?), I was with DB&A for about 3 years. I have been a long time lurker, and a first time contributor here, which some would say is an apt description for my career at DB&A :-)
One thing that used to really bother me about the company was our email process. Nothing seemed less professional that when staff would give their email to a client, and it would be Fluffypuppy73@yahoo.com or raider4life@hotmail.com. I never understood why a company that stresses professionalism would allow this to happen?
Anyhow, I decided to do something about this, and I bought a domain named www.dbawebmail.com. Since I’ve left, I had a little time so I built the domain into a simple website. I thought I would offer email addresses to people that would like them. I’ve built the website on a google backdrop, so in addition to the email address, you get access to google docs, a directory etc…
With the email, you can have a couple of options, you can get your messages via webmail, have your messages automatically forwarded to another addy (fluffypuppy), or have outlook download your messages.
I am willing to provide anyone interested with an email addy, and access to the site for $5 a year. I have always thought our group would be more professional if we had consistent email addresses so I did something about it? You want in?
If you’re interested, please email me at administrator@dbawebmail.com. I will send you a test login and you can see what I’m talking about. If you’re not interested, feel free to flame my idea. Good luck all.

I am an ex DBA staffer. I would like to share one of the best chief experiences I had. Let me begin by saying the chief, who shall remain nameless, could not get through an internal without at least 30 minutes of explaining his greatness. Following the internal sermon the chief began to explain HIS vision for presenting operational improvements to the client. His idea was to create pie graphs depicting areas of focus, and include a trend line. How the H@ll do I plot a trend line on a pie graph? At the point the staff quietly looked at each other thinking, has this guy lost his mind. But as DBA culture requires you do not correct a chief we all kept quiet and laughed at him as we drove back to the hotel.
After thinking about this it makes sense. A pie graph with a trend line spiraling to the center could be use during the TWNW meeting to hypnotize the client into believing the number do make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Anonymous6:20 PM

He certainly does just ask him he'll tell you all about how he comes down off the cross and delivers poor black people in Atlanta from themselves all day. Ah, subtle racism is so fun. Unless you are black at DBA then you are public enemy number one. He is Jewish so he pretends he can't be racist but, that just isn't the case.

  151. Anonymous6:29 PM

DBA talks a good game when it comes to change but, it just never makes it to the shop floor. DBA with the current group of chiefs is a doomed, unless the Chiprianos, Breaults, and Stanjeviches go away. Look who is waiting in the wings. Larue and Michaela. This is not a recipe for success.

The 80's were a fantastic decade. You shut the fuck up! I remember doing blow off unrinals at the bathhouses with Chipriano. He was the butch-est of all the queens we hung out with. He so reminded me of one of the village people in hiding. He had a rat tail to match the 'stache.

There is no doubt that Breault is not an advocate of minorities. There is a reason he surrounds himself with diversity. "Some of my best friends are Nig..um...I mean African Americans". Nothing like a little misdirection from a guy that is easily distracted by bubbles in a graph. Master Strategist? Seriously, I would build the box around this guy daily and he never realized it. I challenge anyone to name a minority he promoted above C. Anyone? Anyone? I now challenge you to name minorities that he demoted/terminated/kept at a level below the quality of their install. Now that is a long list.

What I mean is if you people kiss ass a little more and are willing to completely rolll over and be worked into the ground you could get as high as a "C" or "B" staff. Shit, there's a black president anything could happen. I wont help it happen. Have I ever told you about the time I invented punctuation?

I've never been one to say that a company should take any action for or on the behalf of their employees than providing a paycheck. If you don't like it, leave. Working at DBA has made me re-evaluate this position. The pay is adequate, and in line with other companies. The problem is leadership, or lack thereof. Every employee of DBA is owed quality leadership. There should be no bad chiefs. PMs are not always winners as newbies, that's okay they need guidance and leadership. Good PMs need more opportunity to lead. Everyone had better be honest. There are standards set for staff on the new PIP that most current PMs and Chiefs couldn't meet themselves. If they can't display these attributes how can they look for them in others? That's right they can't. As a company it is time for some soul searching. Will we be a big company like the one the founders left or a smaller, more nimble, responsive company that has does the right thing?

The Book 'The No Asshole Rule' by Robert Sutton should be required reading for all PMs Chiefs and Senior mgmt. A healthy dose of applying what this books says would work wonders. Too many project environments are too toxic for good people to have to tolerate long term. Good business behavior toward the staff should be the primary objective of a firm of this nature.

I'd like to expound on the previous post. Based upon my personal experience, ANY comment about the way the company functions which is not glowing adulation will be seen as either a personal assault against the individual it is directed to or as a weakness on the part of the individual making the comment. In either case, even if not made directly to a Chief or VP, it will shared with those parties and used against the speaker in furture performance ratings and ranking "lotteries".

    ReplyDelete
  177. Anonymous9:36 PM

It is all in the past. DBA is kinder and gentler now. It is true there were times when it was a little more crude but never through "pain or humiliation". There is the intimidation part that may have been valid but, the company won't tolerate that anymore. Humiliation is very subjective, if you are thin skinned this may not be the right business for you to be in. Everything is time bound, giving you special treatment to teach you a one-on-one lesson when the group can benefit is the culture.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Anonymous7:10 AM

HA thas funny, somebody used the terms "kinder and gentler" in referring to DBA. Although there appears to be an attempt to at least appear like they care about the staff it is, in my opinion, being driven from the top but there is a total lack of substance to the effort.

So..., I have an interview with these people coming up..., should I really stay away? Why can't I shake these bad feelings from all these postings, lol. I am not thin skinned by any means, but I didn't go through college and get my MBA to join a consulting firm that doesnt know what they are doing and with people that don't know true management principles and treat each other like crap. I pride myself on being better than that and using my education to join a reputable company with associates that know what they are doing and have some integrity....can anyone shed some light?

After reading all of these comments, I cannot hold back any longer. The biggiest A-hole as a PM or A staff would have to be Gene Hamilton. This guy gets his jollies off on any question that makes you look inteligent. He can't stop talking about is glory days of playing basketball.

Gene if you read this or if any one worked with me reads this you will get the joke. Gene you are a terd that needs to have plastic surgrey to fix your joker smile and please do us all a favor and wear socks to cover those nasty thing you call feet. Come on man you could peel a orange with those claws.

Doug Calaway did not do a damn thing on the job I was on. He talk about sticking things in your ass everyday at the internal. I am so glad i quite when I did, I am making twice as much as I did before.

If there is any Iron Mountain Managment reading this, as a staff working on your project for only 1 month,I was put in charge of the saving evaluation and My PM would give me numbers to put in that made no sense.

Kevin Mcarley give me a call. I worked with you for a short time and Cliff whats going on. Give me a call and we can chat about claw feet.

Anyone worked on the CoMed or Norfolk projects. I worked for DBA about ten years ago for about 5 months, the PM on the Norfolk shipyard didn't know anything. I asked his boss if I could go back to CoMed project he said no. So I left the next day. The I was the secound person to left from his group. When I started, I was told they would supply labtops...wrong. Think good I had my own. People do not like training new associates either. I was 24 years old they use a recruiting firm on Careerbuilder that set up the interview in a hotel room. I was suprise to see that a black man was I think was thrid in charge at the time. Do any of know his name?

    ReplyDelete

Don't they teach MBAs how to make decisions more quickly? You haven't even had an interview yet. They may not want you.

Wow!!! spelling people, it would be great if you could actually spell correctly so the rest of us could actually read your comments. Interesting comments about Gene though, I always thought he was a pretty decent guy, as far as his feet go...what in the world were doing checking out his feet, foot fetish or what.

i heard that they did a lot of cheating to get there numbers. The base that they set were made up to make them look good. if that is true then they are some good bullshiters. I heard Josh and Gene had a secret love afair on that job, and then Caraway jumped in.

Here is a fact. DBA is worthless. They add no value to any company.

If you have an interview skip it. The hasel is not worth it. You meet somebody in a hotel room and all they are looking for is a warm body to bill the client. Then you spend the next 3 to 6 months flying back and forth from the job site to home, only to spend maybe 48 hours with you family. In my opion it was not worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  193. Anonymous9:06 AM

I disagree whole heartedly!! DBA has, in the past, had its fair share of growing pains, but with the current guidance DBA is positioning itself to be a force in the consulting industry. If you are interested in being part of a company that is in the process of reinventing itself along with developing a much broader base of clients then get in now. From a staffs perspective this is a very exciting time to be with a company like DBA.

Resume's are an excellent marketing tool if one wants to showcase the experience to potential employers. Yeah, that's the way to go. I bet that and a cover letter might just do it.
